Illegal Immigration and the Catholic Church
The American Catholic Church sees its salvation in illegal immigrants. The “open borders” stance of some Catholic Cardinals and Bishops is pure hypocrisy. Until the Catholic Church opens the borders of the Vatican and give immediate citizenship to anyone, Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim, Jew, Protestant or Catholic who wants to live there, the American Catholic Church must be viewed as either hypercritical or heretical.
Aside for the obvious, that nearly all illegal immigrants from Central and South America are Catholic, there is an even more compelling reason for the American Catholic Church to want citizenship for illegals: The Catholic Church is dying from a lack of priests. The number of priests in the United States has declined by over 25% in the last 30 years, while less that 10% of the priests ordained in the United States each year are American born, and few of those have come out of the Catholic Seminaries. Where once the Catholic preparatory seminaries turned out thousands of well educated young men, many of whom would become priests, today, there are probably no more that 500 total young men enrolled today in the few preparatory seminaries that remain in the United States.
The answer for the Catholic Cardinals and Bishops is making the illegal immigrants citizens so they can produce Catholic priests. The look at how the Irish immigration infused the priesthood. It was axiomatic that an Irish mother should have three sons. One would become a priest, one a policeman, and the other a fireman. The Italian and Polish immigrations followed closely with large families that produced many well educated priests.
The Catholic Bishops understand the power of ignorance. Brilliant Catholic scholars have always been able to allow faith to overcome reason, and supplant reason with apologetics. But the world is changing. Unlike the fundamentalist Christians who espouse ignorant faith over fact and reason because they believe Jesus will come and they will rule the world, young Catholics are not only questioning the tenets of their religion, but rejecting many of them as being in opposition to the truth. The Catholic “flat earth,” “earth centered universe” and “evolution” are far from the minds of ignorant immigrants who are not conflicted by knowledge they do not have. They are the base clay from which the Catholic Church can mold its future priests, and give life and salvation to their dying religion.
